The Science of the Perfect “S”

Why do some body waves drop straight after one wash? It comes down to the processing method. We use high-pressure steam, not harsh chemicals.

Processing Method Comparison

Chemical Perm (Market Standard)

Uses acid bath to force curl. Strips the cuticle, leading to dryness, matting, and a strong chemical odor.

Steam Process (Our Standard)

Uses high-temperature steam (4+ hours) to lock in the wave memory. Keeps cuticles intact and hydrated.

The “Wash Test” Guarantee

A common fear is that Body Wave hair will become bone straight after washing. Our steam-processed bundles are engineered to recover.

1
Wet State: The wave will loosen significantly (this is normal for steam-processed hair).
2
Air Dry: As it dries, the memory activates, returning to a soft, natural “S” wave.
3
Longevity: Maintains texture for 1-2 years with proper care.
Pro Tip: The Smell Test “Authentic steam-processed hair smells faintly like corn chips (from the heat), NOT like rotten eggs or acid.”

Grading & Thickness: The “Ratio” Reality

Stop guessing with meaningless “10A/12A” labels. We grade our body wave bundles based on the Drawn Ratio—the percentage of full-length strands in each bundle.

Single Drawn

30% Long Ratio

Natural taper at the ends. Mimics natural hair growth. Cost-effective choice for budget markets.

Fullness: Low
Price Point: $ Economy
Bestseller

Double Drawn

50% – 60% Ratio

The industry standard. Significantly fuller ends while maintaining a natural flow. Ideal for N. American salons.

Fullness: Standard
Price Point: $$ Mid-Range

Super Double

70% – 80% Ratio

Maximum density from root to tip. “Zero taper” look. Created for luxury installs and celebrity styling.

Fullness: Max
Price Point: $$$ Luxury
Why Ratios Matter More Than Grade Names

“12A” means nothing if the ends are thin. A Double Drawn bundle ensures your clients don’t have to trim 2 inches off the bottom to get a full look, reducing complaints about the “Rat Tail” effect.

“Bundle Deals” Logic: Inventory Strategy

Body Wave bundles are typically sold in “3+1” sets (3 Bundles + 1 Closure). Understanding the weight-to-length ratio ensures you recommend the correct quantity to your clients.

The Standard 300g Rule

A standard full-head install requires approximately 300 grams of hair. Since each bundle weighs ~100g, “3 Bundles” became the industry standard. However, as length increases, the weft track becomes shorter to maintain weight, requiring more bundles for density.

95g – 100g Standard Net Weight Per Bundle

10″ – 14″ Bob / Shoulder Length 2Bundles
16″ – 22″ Standard Mid-Back Length 3Bundles
24″ – 30″+ Waist / Hip Length 4Bundles
*Note: Always add +1 bundle if not using a closure/frontal.

Complete the Look: Texture-Matched Lace

Don’t ruin a premium install with a mismatched closure. Our lace systems are steam-processed in the exact same batch as our bundles to ensure perfect “S-Pattern” continuity.

Why Batch Matching Matters

Buying bundles from one vendor and closures from another is a recipe for disaster. Body wave textures vary by factory. We guarantee a 100% texture match because our frontals undergo the same 4-hour steam process as the bundles.

Cohesive S-Pattern Seamless blend from hairline to ends. No visual break.

Quality Control & Inspection Checklist

Don’t accept poor quality bundles. Use this checklist to verify weight, smell, and wave retention before paying the balance.

Body Wave QC Protocol

Standard acceptance criteria for wholesale orders.

  • Net Weight Verification Must weigh 95g – 100g (excluding cardboard/rubber bands).
  • Smell Test (The “Corn Chip” Check) Should smell faintly of corn chips (steam), not acid/chemical.
  • Heat Recovery Test Flat iron a small section. Wet it. Wave must return.
  • Shedding Stress Test Run fingers through bundle 5x. Max 2-3 strands loss allowed.
  • Weft Construction Must be Machine Double Weft with reinforced glue sealing.

Why the “Corn Chip” Smell is Good

It sounds counterintuitive, but a faint smell resembling corn chips is a positive sign for Body Wave hair. This indicates the hair was steam-processed using corn starch as a heat protectant, rather than being soaked in an acid bath. Acid-processed hair smells chemically sweet or like rotten eggs (masked by perfume).

Heat Memory Warning

Cheap Body Wave is often just straight hair braided tightly and boiled for 30 minutes. This wave drops permanently after one wash. Always perform the Heat Recovery Test on a sample before placing a bulk order.

Body Wave Technical FAQ

Common questions regarding maintenance, texture retention, and processing for wholesale buyers.

How long does the Body Wave texture last?
With our 4+ Hour Steam Process, the “S” pattern is locked into the hair memory. It will typically last 1 to 2 years with proper care. While the wave may loosen slightly after the first wash (becoming more natural), it will not go bone straight like cheap chemically processed hair.
Can I bleach/dye Body Wave hair to #613 Blonde?
Yes. Since our bundles are 100% Virgin Human Hair with intact cuticles, they can be lifted to #613 or #60. However, please note that heavy bleaching breaks down protein bonds, which may cause the wave pattern to loosen by 10-15%. We recommend deep conditioning after coloring to restore elasticity.
What is the difference between Body Wave and Loose Wave?
Body Wave has a large, relaxed “S” pattern designed for volume and flow. Loose Wave has a tighter, more defined spiral curl that drops vertically. Body Wave is more versatile for straightening, while Loose Wave holds a curl style better.
Why do your bundles have a faint corn-like smell?
This is the hallmark of Authentic Steam Processing. We use corn starch as a biodegradable heat protectant during the steaming phase. This scent washes out completely with one shampoo. If bundles smell like “corn chips,” it proves they were not bathed in harsh industrial acids (which smell like rotten eggs masked by perfume).
Do I need 3 or 4 bundles for a 26-inch install?
For lengths 24″ and above, we strongly recommend 4 bundles (plus a closure/frontal) to ensure the ends look full. As hair length increases, the weft width decreases to maintain the standard 100g weight. Using only 3 bundles for long lengths may result in a thin, “stringy” look at the bottom.
