PU Construction: Standard vs. Invisible

We offer two distinct bond types to cater to different market segments. Choosing the right construction impacts both price point and client retention.

Standard Series Classic PU Tape

Classic PU Tape

The industry standard. Features a smooth, thin polyurethane strip. Hair is bonded to the top, creating a flat, secure attachment.

  • Finish: Slight sheen (Smooth PU)
  • Target: Volume & Length
  • Price Point: Economical

Premium Invisible Injected Skin Weft

Injected “Skin Weft”

Machine-injected hair that mimics root growth directly from the scalp. The PU is matte and invisible, perfect for thin hair.

  • Finish: Matte / Invisible (No Shine)
  • Target: Fine Hair / Top of Head
  • Price Point: +25% Higher Margin

Pro Sourcing Tip

“Injected” tape-ins command a higher retail price but have a lower replacement frequency due to the delicate construction. Recommend them as an “Upgrade” option for clients with thinning hair.

Hair Quality & Weight Specifications

Selecting the correct gram weight is vital to preventing traction alopecia. We adhere to strict industry standards to ensure scalp safety.

Standard Weight Chart

Weight Per Piece Recommended For Pack Weight (20 pcs)
2.0g / pc Fine / Thin Hair 40g Total
2.5g / pc Standard / Medium Hair 50g Total (Industry Standard)
3.0g / pc High Density / Thick Hair 60g Total (Caution: Heavy)
*Recommended install: 2-3 packs (100g-150g) for a full head.
Single Drawn

Natural Ratio (Standard)

Tapers naturally at the ends. Mimics natural hair growth. Best for blending with layered cuts.

Double Drawn

Full Density (Premium)

Thickness remains consistent from root to tip. Creates a voluminous, heavy look. Cost: +20%.

12-24 Mo Hair Lifespan (Remy)
6-10 Wks Wear Time Per Install
3-4x Reusability (With New Tape)

The “Sandwich” Method: Installation Logic

Proper installation is key to product performance. Our tapes are designed for the standard sandwich technique, requiring precise density control.

Top Tape Extension
Bottom Tape Extension
The Bond Principle: The two tape tabs must touch each other through the hair.
1

Section & Lift

Create a clean horizontal part. Lift a transparently thin slice of the client’s natural hair. You should be able to see your fingers through the slice.

2

Place Bottom Tab

Remove the seal from the first extension. Place it sticky-side up underneath the lifted hair slice, leaving 2mm space from the scalp.

3

Seal the Sandwich

Place the second extension directly on top, aligning perfectly with the bottom tab. Press firmly from center to edges to eliminate air bubbles.

Critical: The “Density Rule” for B2B Quality Control
Too Thin

Not enough hair to support the weight. Leads to Traction Alopecia and scalp sores.

Perfect

Tape tabs touch each other through the hair gaps. Secure bond, no damage.

Too Thick

Tape adheres only to hair, not to the other tape. Causes Immediate Slippage (Slipping).

Maximizing ROI: Maintenance & Reuse Strategy

Tape-in extensions are designed to be reused 3-4 times. Proper maintenance not only extends the hair lifespan but creates a recurring service revenue model for salons.

Critical Client Aftercare

  • The 48-Hour Rule

Do NOT wash hair for 48 hours after application. The adhesive needs time to cure and bond fully.

  • No Oils Near Roots

Conditioners and oils dissolve the adhesive. Apply products mid-shaft down only.

  • Use Dry Shampoo

Keeps the scalp oil-free, preventing premature slippage of the tape tabs.

B2B Opportunity

The “Re-Tape” Revenue Stream

Don’t just sell the hair; supply the entire ecosystem. Every 8 weeks, clients return for removal and re-installation. Stocking high-quality maintenance products increases your average order value (AOV).

QC & RFQ Checklist

Slippage is the #1 reason clients switch suppliers. Use this rigorous checklist to validate the bonding security of your tape-in orders.

Tape-In Sourcing Checklist

Copy these specs into your Purchase Order (PO) to ensure medical-grade performance.

  • Adhesive Brand Verification Confirm Walker Tape® (USA) or 3M® Medical. Reject generic “Blue Tape”.
  • The “Peel Test” (Durability) Bend the PU strip 180°. Reject if PU layer cracks or separates from hair.
  • Heat Resistance Check PU strip must withstand 150°C (300°F) flat iron pass without deforming.
  • Shedding Stress Test Pull hair firmly near the bond. Zero shedding allowed for Injected Tape.
  • Adhesive Freshness Backing paper must peel smoothly. Glue should be clear, not cloudy/yellow.

Why the “Adhesive” Matters Most

In the B2B tape extension market, hair quality is secondary to bond security. If a client’s extension slips out after one wash, they blame the salon. You must audit the adhesive sourcing.

QC Warning

Beware of “Old Stock” tape. Adhesives have a shelf life. Always ask factories for the production date code on the tape roll batch.

Tape-In Extension FAQ

Addressing technical concerns regarding bonding security, removal, and maintenance for salon professionals.

Do tape-in extensions cause traction alopecia or hair damage?
Only if installed incorrectly. Damage occurs when too much weight (the extension) is attached to too little natural hair. By following our 2.5g standard weight and ensuring a proper “sandwich” density, the weight is distributed evenly across the section, making it one of the safest semi-permanent methods available.
How do I completely remove sticky residue from the client’s hair?
Use an alcohol-based or citrus-based solvent. Spray the solvent directly into the sandwich, wait 30 seconds, and gently peel. If residue remains, use a fine-tooth comb with a small amount of remover to slide the adhesive out. Always wash the natural hair with a clarifying shampoo before a re-install.
Why do some tapes slip out after the first wash?
Slippage is usually caused by insufficient curing time or improper sectioning. Clients must wait 48-72 hours before getting the hair wet to allow the medical acrylic to bond. Additionally, if the “sandwich” contains too much hair, the two adhesive surfaces cannot touch each other, causing the bond to fail.
Can the PU strips be colored or toned?
No. Polyurethane is non-porous and will not absorb hair dye. If you need the tape tabs to blend with a darker root, we recommend sourcing our OEM Rooted Tapes, where the PU strip is pre-tinted at the factory to match dark or colored bases.
What is the difference between “Classic” and “Injected” tape?
Classic tape has a visible smooth PU border. Injected tape (Skin Weft) features hair that is individualy “injected” into the PU, hiding the top edge of the hair. Injected tape is 100% invisible and mimics the scalp, making it the preferred choice for the hairline and crown areas.
